Walking in Europe

A blog of Angus and Alison's walking tour of the Tour de Mont Blanc, Via degli Dei the Dobratsch Circuit in Carinthia, Austria, the Dolomites, Venice, and Iceland

Up early this morning for the 90 km ride to the Verdun area. It’s raining, so I’ve had an extra “cafe crème”!

Yesterday was a shorter ride of about 60 km from Luneville (in the old Duchy of Lorraine palace city) through the larger city of Nancy (which we skirted) and onward for a late lunch at the medieval city of Liverdun. Much of the ride was along the Meurthe River with a stretch through a massive salt plant. Some of the riders continued to Toul for the afternoon. I stayed behind while Tom made a few repairs to the vintage bike.

A quick stop at the cemetery (necropole) at Chapelle was impactful once again.

I have posted more pictures as well as a few excerpts from A.D.’s letters for interested readers in the “Notes and Passages” section.

I so look forward to your daily bulletins. Thank you! I wish my father was here to share it with me! Your photos are great. Wonderful blue sky shining sown on the cross filled fields. Take care, love, Frankie

Thank you for reading Frankie. I’m often thinking of Harold on this trip.
