Walking in Europe

A blog of Angus and Alison's walking tour of the Tour de Mont Blanc, Via degli Dei the Dobratsch Circuit in Carinthia, Austria, the Dolomites, Venice, and Iceland

Quick post: Leaving Florence in the morning, by train and stop over in Trieste for a couple of days to visit friends of Mike B’s. Then we’ll head to Austria to start the “Dobratsch Circuit” in the Eastern Alps of the Carinthia Region.

We had a lovely last day in Firenze today crossing the Arno River this morning by way of the picturesque Ponte Vecchio and to the Palazzo Pitti where we toured the Medici palace that houses the Galleria Palatina, the Museo Della Moda e del Costume (clothing through the ages), and the Museo Giardino Di Boboli (beautiful gardens), and finished with a look at the old frescoes at the chapel at Cappella Brancacci. Actually we finished with a large gelato! Sad to be leaving, but looking forward to the next leg of the adventure!

Woodwork on the ceiling!
This one caught my eye, one of a very few in the collection by an English painter. This self portrait by Sargent “en pleine aire” in the mountains.

    Hi Angus

Wow you two really made great use of your time in Florence. I can’t believe the number of museums you took in. No wonder you clocked 10+ km every day. Time to get out on the trail again. I hope Austria is another trek of discovery and variety. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Would you mind if I sent your blog link to Maureen? I know she and her brother would be so interested in following along. If not, please say. I’m not sure how many people you are wanting to give access to.

All good here. Another heat wave ramping up and the end of August approaches already. Big hug to you both.

Good morning! Of course no problem to share with Maureen. We’re looking forward to cooler temps in Austria. Hope the heat wave in BC is short lived!
