Nov 1stβ¦Weather has cleared so weβre starting our next ascent.
Yesterday we had a very restful day off from hiking in Landruk in order to sit out the rain storm and grey day and rest up for another two or three day walk up to 4,000+m on the Mardi Himal route (see map below).
It was nice for the four of us to take a rest day after 14 days of walking. So yesterday we spent most of the day sitting on the covered verandah watching the rain run off the roof and catching up on reading and notes. The rain had started in the late afternoon of the day before (30th) just as we got into Landruk, and then really came down overnight and into yesterday morning. By yesterday afternoon it started to ease and lift, and by this morning (Nov. 1) we are back to beautiful blue skies with a very welcome and beautiful sunrise.
After breakfast this morning, we climbed up along the trail out of Landruk on a trail to Forest Camp (see map, not to Deurali Putnam) which sits at about 1600m and managed to make it up past the guesthouse at βForest Campβ and continue another hour up the trail to the guesthouse at βRest Campβ where we will stay tonight. Rest Camp sits at 2600m (a bit higher up the ridge than Forest Camp), so in all we gained about a 1000m elevation over 5.6 kms by lunchtime seemingly straight up some very steep paths and staircases.
The walk through the dense forest was spectacular and the cool shade for walking was so welcome. Part way up I must have popped into a sight line for cell coverage so we received a call from Emily on her break on a night shift at the hospital. So amazing to have a FaceTime on the side of a mountain on the other side of the world! We arrived at Rest Camp in time for lunch and a hot shower (!) and are looking forward to tomorrowβs push to βHigh Camp.β Another magical day in the mountains of Nepalπ³π΅
